THE ROAD OF THE ROMA PEOPLE TO NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY
THROUGH VIRTUAL ROMANISTAN
As technology advance apace so the possibility for the Roma Nation to claim a people’s sovereignty draws closer. Sovereignty brings liberation through the right to self-determination through self-governance.
Up until now Roma Nation status has been determined by proclamation of the World Roma Congress, notably at the Prague Congress in 2000. The resolution adopted then stated that the Roma Nation is a nation without territory, and without claim to borders.
However, a Romani activist of Middle East extraction is the lead engineer in the creation of an advanced virtual reality platform. Quote “Where everyone can make, and be, and do anything they like, constrained only by their imagination.”
Already the hardware has been completed with which all physical movement can be replicated in real-time. “We’re now having meetings and working within the platform itself,” she says. “It feels as real as actually sitting in a room with the other people who are participating.”
Together with Democratic Transition, this advanced technology offers a means for overriding the necessity to occupy territory in order to enjoy nation status. DT is meanwhile linking up thousands across the global Roma Disapora. The two systems operating in tandem could bring into being a virtual Romanistan with characteristics so similar to territorial possession to be comparable politically with long-established land-defined states.
The next steps to realization of Romani Nationhood will be the topic of the reformed World Roma Congress meeting in Berlin from 16 May 2023.
